Know the run, scout it out and do your research (call local ranger station or fly fishing shops, etc.)
Take a head count of your crew
Know the river position and how to swim towards shore & talk with everyone about it
Always avoid log jams
Always avoid strainers (trees in water with branches straining the water)
Know the rapids or scout them out before you go full on into them
Don't try to go over diversion dams or any other type
Don't go under irrigation spill ways
Pay attention to any signs posted along the river
Know where your OUT is
Have a First Aid kit with you
Have a Cell phone with you
Know who can NOT swim and make sure they are wearing a PFD (personal floatation device)
